2007 Portsmouth Festivities
In 2007 the Festivities celebrated the city's international links under the theme “Comings & Goings”.
The programme featured events marking the 25th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict, the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade as well as the life and works of celebrated writer and doctor Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who moved to Southsea 125 years ago.
An impressive line-up of performers and speakers of international renown performed and worked with young people from Portsmouth. The Tallis Scholars, The London Mozart Players and Catherine Bott were amongst the highlights.
Speakers included General Julian Thompson, Brian Hanrahan, Andrew Lycett amongst others.
Michael Morpurgo, former children’s laureate spoke at a Family
Event. Education projects included a Strings Master Class with highly
respected violinist Levon Chilingirian, a debut recital featuring the
winner of last year’s Portsmouth Music Festival, Samba workshops
for schools and a Young Artists’ Platform hosted by Gunwharf Quays.
