Portsmouth Schools' Music Festival

Wednesday 25 & Thursday 26 June

Portsmouth Guildhall

All 70 schools from the Portsmouth area will be taking part in this annual event. A celebration of youth and young musicians and performers, the two events will feature five choirs of 230 children from Infant, Junior and Secondary schools and local youth orchestras, ensembles and dance groups. Cipher Present: The Phantom of the Opera

With a stunning new live music score by Cipher, the grand atmospheric melodrama of the classic 1925 silent version of The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney provides a perfect vehicle in terror and tragedy for the dark ambient jazz soundscapes of Cipher.

Cipher – saxophonist/flautist Theo Travis and bassist Dave Sturt – have been reinventing music for silent films for live performance since 1996. Their acclaimed scores include Pabst’s Pandora’s Box, Murnau’s The Last Laugh and two Hitchcock classics: The Lodger and Blackmail.
